Description
This 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was acquired by the current owner in 2021 and subsequently received a repaint along with a refresh of the 2,053cc flat-four. Additional work performed during current ownership consisted of installing dual Weber 44 carburetors and MSD ignition, along with replacing the wiring harness, battery, serpentine belt assembly, and decklid springs. The car is finished in white and equipped with a four-speed manual transaxle, aftermarket headers, Fuchs-style wheels, fixed-back bucket seats trimmed in black leather and plaid cloth, and a Nardi steering wheel. This modified Karmann Ghia is offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with records from current ownership and a clean California title.
The Karmann-built body was repainted white by Reunion Autoworks of Oakland, California in April 2022. Features include a vented engine lid, a single exhaust outlet, Pegasus decals on the front fenders, pop-out rear windows, and chrome-finished bumpers. The rear bumper overriders have been removed, and the rear decklid springs were replaced in 2021.
Polished 15 Fuchs-style wheels feature Porsche center caps and are mounted with Yokohama Advan Fleva tires. The front brakes were cleaned, the front wheel bearings re-packed, and the brake fluid flushed in September 2021.
The interior features fixed-back front bucket seats upholstered in black leather and multi-color plaid cloth. Appointments include a push-button radio, three-point front seatbelts, and a wood shift knob with a Fernet-Branca plate. Aftermarket sound deadening has been added to the floors. The door latches were repaired in September 2021.
The wood-rimmed Nardi Torino steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 90-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and oil pressure. An AutoGage tachometer is mounted below the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 21k miles, approximately 2k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 2,053cc flat-four was refreshed in 2021 by Torque Power Engines of Reno, Nevada with replacement piston rings, 94mm barrels, valves, springs, and gaskets. A valve job was performed, the engine tin powder coated, and dual Weber 44 carburetors and MSD ignition were added. Additional work at that time included replacing the battery, cables, and battery box, along with the serpentine belt assembly, wiring harness, spark plugs, and ignition wires.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. Aftermarket exhaust headers and a polished muffler have been installed as shown above.
